About Rita’s Campaign

I have am climbing Kilimanjaro with Team Kilimanjaro on their 7 day Machame route and have decided to use my Kilimanjaro climb as an opportunity to raise funds for my chosen charity, ‘People Living with Cancer’ and would be very grateful for your support.

I have lost so many people close to me, to cancer. I’ve seen the struggle, the pain, the heartache. This climb will be in memory of my loving Mom and Dad who both passed from cancer, and this climb will be my motivation to help those who live with cancer.

People Living with Cancer “PLWC” is an umbrella organisation which brings together various projects and people who makes a difference in the lives of people living with cancer in South Africa.

Established in 2002 by Carl Liebenberg and Linda Greeff, both of whom are cancer survivors the organisation has set about developing volunteer counselling guidelines that are aligned with international protocols. This has allowed the organisation to have one of the most established volunteer psycho-social programmes in South Africa.

In the formative years of the organisation the focus was on establishing a peer-to-peer cancer support program. Over time PLWC has developed a broader perspective and now finds its role as an umbrella organisation responsible for many cancer-related projects that find synergy in working together in a complementary and creative manner, overseen by a management group drawn from these projects.
