About Iain’s Campaign

Hi,

I am Iain. I have Friedreich’s Ataxia.

This affects my balance, speech, swallowing and my spine. It often leads to heart muscle disease and diabetes.

I was diagnosed when I was 9. I am 27 now and in a wheelchair.

Despite my disability I am ascending Kilimanjaro in October 2014. This will be the world’s first attempt using a mountain trike!

I am raising money for Ataxia UK to help fund research into a possible new treatment called Nicotinamide, which may stop the condition progressing and may even turn it around.

I will be supported by my Dad Graham, his partner Karen, my 2 brothers Callum and Craig, my cousin Billy, and Nick our mountain medic.

We will follow the Rongai Route over 7 to 10 days as this is the best route for wheelchair ascents and aim to reach the summit in early October.

Please sponsor me – all money raised through sponsorship will go to Ataxia UK.
